Fabulating Worlds

Calling queerdo, Transgender, crip, feminist & BIPOC dreamers & worldmakers!

DATES:

Session 1 : October 18-19

OR

Session 2:  November 8-9

Workshops run from  9 am - 5 pm. Lunch is provided.

Be prepared to stay late on the second day as needed to complete video work.

In a world of climate catastrophe, mass displacement, colonial dispossession, queer and transphobia, gender-based violence, and war, we invite you to fabulate possible worlds and habitable futures with us.

In this two day workshop, participants will create experimental worlds with devised performance and green screen video. We begin with a full day performance workshop. Expect the unexpected and be prepared to move and improvise! On day 2 you will experience the magic of live compositing with virtual sets as you shoot, edit, and sound mix a short green screen video with assistance from a team of filmmakers.

Participants will take away an original short (1-3 minute) video, as well as an individual or small group photo with their virtual set.

This workshop series is part of the SSHRC funded Pluriversal Worlding with Extended Reality project, jointly led by settler and Anishinaabe scholar-artists Mary Bunch and Dolleen Tisawii’ashii Manning. Pluriversal Worlding engages with colonial power relationships, disability justice, queer worldmaking, and the complex interrelationality of ecosystems, to imagine possible worlds set in fictitious re-imaginings of trouble sites in southern Ontario. This work explores the decolonial concept that the world is composed of many worlds, that worldviews create reality, and that everything – all existence – is interrelated.
